I really love this dental office, the hygienist and Dr. Carlson. I had a crown replaced and the deep below gumline cleaning last year and both processes were very smooth and easy. I actually am very glad they recommended the deep cleaning as I’d never had that done before. I was in and out today for yearly X-rays, cleaning and exam in about 45 minutes. My dentist in San Antonio retired and I tried several others in SA that I did not care for. I was so happy when I found Family Smiles and Dr. Carlson.

This was my first visit. I wanted a cleaning. I asked over the phone how much it was, they would not give me an answer. I had X-rays and met with the dentist, that was good. When I asked for the cleaning they said I had to have a deep cleaning in 3 areas and it was going to be over $700. I changed dentists recently and I had never heard this. I asked for just the basic cleaning. They refused to give it to me, saying it’s against the hygienist ethics. It felt like a scam. What’s also confusing is they are supposed to be a low cost dentist. The prices they quoted to replace a filling was higher than I have heard and then the cost of a deep cleaning was high and something I had never even heard of. I hope others read this so they are aware of this issue at this dental office.

extremely professional experience, transparent with insurance coverages & costs, and they doctor layed out a plan for that suited me to get my smile back to something I’m not afraid to show off.After my appointment I got the mrs. scheduled and will be bringing my child here as well. :)

This place seems like they have your best interest. They quote you wrong on the phone. They also do more than you request and charge you a different amount. Very unsatisfied. The lady kept saying it was misunderstood, but I was on the phone with her 15 minutes the day prior explaing I wanted one thing addressed. Then added more services to my visit . They are short staffed and very unprofessional . Long wait time the office manager did nothing to make it right.

I’ve had regular cleanings every 6 months for several years and only because my insurance changed I had to change Dentists. When I walked in there were 5 workers sitting in office waiting for someone to come in. They did a very thorough job of x rays and dentist did a thorough exam and review with pictures. The hygienist then told me during her exam that I needed detailed cleaning in 5 places, acting like my previous dentist had not done this. I told them that was fine IF my insurance covered it. They checked and it only covered 80% and would have cost $136 out of pocket so I declined and requested the basic cleaning. They said they could not do that since they had recommended a detail cleaning (that part made sense to me). However, I’m very confident that my previous dentist was honest and did everything they should have done. It felt like they had to pay for their overstaffing and needed to upsell me so I left the office without getting a cleaning. They were courteous and respectful In everything just previous experience with dentists who upsell tell you that you need more than you do caused me to be overly cautious. I REALLY wish my previous dentist accepted my insurance. They (my dentist and team for 5 years) were great.

He was to have a deep scale cleaning that cost $455 for the lower teeth and took less than 20 minutes. He hadn't allowed this to be done for nearly 4 years. The hygenist recorded a 40 minute cleaning, incorrect medical record made. The entire appointment took 32 minutes from drop off, registration, lobby wait time and very short time spent on a periodontal deep scale cleaning. Speaking with the billing produced no apolgoy, no adjustment to cash pay amount. He was not provided after care rinse or instructions. The Dr. and staff are very kind and although they are more expensive, we've continued his care there because he has become somewhat comfortable there. My son did not receive the service I paid for.

Wonderful 1st time visit for my regular cleaning. Younger interns are given the opportunity to learn XRAY techniques. This is valuable for both parties. Dental hygienist was experienced and completed her tasks swiftly and thoroughly. Dentist was personable and thorough. Be prepared for lots of pictures on day 1 but it is worth the extra time. Such a convenient location and kid friendly is always a win:win

I’ve had several cleanings, including a deep gum cleaning anda whitening of my teeth. All the work done has been top notch and very successful. The staff is professional and courteous. I LOVE the hygienist. She’s professional and does excellent work. The dental work (crown) I’ve had done has been perfect. All around good practices and services offered here. The pricing of services is very reasonable as well. Highly recommend this office for your dental needs.

The Dr. I had was genuinely really great! (I had to have two wisdom teeth removed, and I definitely wasn’t an easy patient. I have a ridiculous amount of anxiety when it comes to anything dentist related & had a complete mental breakdown before even starting the removal.) He was fantastic and had a lot of patience with me and helped calm me down. As well as also answering all my questions and in depth explaining everything that had to be done (when I asked) in order to calm my nerves more. He also constantly checked in with me to make sure I was okay & gave me lots of breaks to help me stay calm.
