Upon arrival the secretary informs me Dr. Leslie is on vacation and I’ll be seen by someone filling in who flew in from California. I asked about getting a cleaning done from her and she said “ I’d wait for Dr. Leslie for that in a disgruntled manner giving me the impression she didn’t think the Dr knew what she was doing- which was unprofessional. I was upset I was told Dr. Leslie was out on vacation upon arrival instead of informing me before via phone/text/email. It would have been appropriate to know that Dr. Leslie was on vacation ahead of time so I could have rescheduled. I was there to get my permanent crown on. The crown was huge and didn’t fit well at all and Dr Leslie was worried about the lab not bringing back a good fit. I asked the substitute Dr “ what will you be doing today.” She said “ I’m going to numb you and put the crown on.” That’s when I stopped her and said “ well can you inform me how to tell if it fits because it feels very large and it’s rocking from side to side in my mouth.” I could feel the crown wasn’t properly fitted. What was alarming was had I not asked or spoken up the dentist was going to numb me and do whatever she wanted without providing me information or caring the crown didn’t fit. She then began to shape the crown down and mark my bite without numbing me. I felt very anxious there as she and the technician were highly unprofessional almost catty back and forth with attitudes passing the tools back and forth. The Dentist seemed anxious like she didn’t really have the experience or knowledge of what she was doing. She shaped the crown and then installed the crown where I felt it didn’t fit very well but I already paid and didn’t really know what else to do. Then the tech comes in and has me sign a waiver for liability that there’s a warranty on the crown which I found strange because why do that after why not before? - like she was trying to cover her a** because she knew she did a poor job. Next we were arranging me to come back so she could check the crown in 3 days and I was scheduled for 4 fillings. The secretary and the technician informed me there were no openings for that day and booked out until the next 2 months. However, the dentist pulled up her schedule where I could see it and was wide open and scheduled me then and there. It felt like the secretary and the tech were trying to avoid having to work so lied about the schedule or something. Well, the day of my appointment arrives and the substitute DR apparently left that same day back to California for an emergency. I wasn’t informed when Dr Leslie should be back from vacation. I went to research who the substitute dentist was and she didn’t have any reviews but she had Instagram photos online that she graduated in 2022. I would have appreciated Dr. Leslie doing the crown and being informed ahead of time instead of a recent graduate. I scheduled an appointment with Bulverde Dentistry and Orthodontics for the fillings and the Dr did them well and it cost half the price with insurance. She didn’t like the look of my crown but wouldn’t touch it given there’s a warranty on it with Canyon Lake Smiles. The warranty lasts 2 months which they don’t inform you of -instead I had to ask. Also, when I went to ask for my dental records the office manager said she would give them to me but didn’t and I called the next day same thing happened and then the next day the same thing happened and to this day I don’t have my medical records. The office staff doesn’t seem to have any experience in practicing empathy or customer service skills. I expressed my concern to them but didn’t receive any empathy or acknowledgment. I really valued Dr. Leslie and was excited for her to be my dentist. When Dr Leslie did the cleaning, crown fitting and cavity removal I had 100 % trust and felt very comfortable, as she’s thorough and gentle and walks you through everything. She’s a very unique dentist in that regard, but after the unprofessional behavior of the staff and the Substitute Dr I am still very wary to go back.

This was my first dentist visit in 20 years due to extreme anxiety! The entire staff took such great care of me and helped me feel so comfortable and at ease. They took the time to explain every step of the process, and never made me feel ashamed for taking so long to go to the dentist. Dr. Smith and the entire staff really made my day! They deserve more than 5 stars! I actually look forward to my next visit! Thank you so much Canyon Lake Smiles from the bottom of my heart for helping me overcome my fear today!

Dr. Smith has the cutest personality. She talks you through everything she does. She's very thorough and meticulous. She makes sure you're comfortable with what she's doing. My previous dentist 'patched' what I thought was just a worn area like a crevice at the gum line. $200 for the 'patch' that lasted 2 weeks. Dental floss pulled it out. The crevice was really a pretty bad cavity with decay that was not removed by my previous dentist.Fingers crossed this filling will work out. Either way I appreciate the time Dr Smith took to repair the tooth.
