Started my journey with Greater Houston Orthodontist 5 years ago. They made me feel comfortable from day one with my consultation until the day I got my braces off. Due to my field of work, I would miss my appointments, which extended my plan from 2.5 years to 5 years. They never charged me extra for the extended years or appointments. I became family with the team there and always knew I was in good hands with my dental assistant Izzy. She was always so gentle when it came to working in my mouth and always made me feel comfortable. I look forward to recommending GHO to anyone who’s looking for a home for their orthodontist needs!

I chose to get braces from Greater Houston Orthodontics based on positive online reviews, but it turned out to be a significant disappointment. Having had braces over 30 years ago at the age of 15, which was a positive experience, I returned to correct the alignment of my bottom teeth and close a small gap between my front teeth. Upon consultation with Dr. Mehr, I was assured that this would be a straightforward fix, with the option of traditional braces or Invisalign. I chose traditional braces. Initially, the process involved widening my upper teeth to facilitate the realignment of my bottom teeth—a step not required during my previous orthodontic treatment even though I have the same number of teeth. When it came time to close the space she created in my upper teeth, they put a chain around my braces which was absolutely excruciating. There was so much pressure from the chain, I thought my teeth were going to crack. Despite voicing my discomfort and concerns about the pressure, I was told it was necessary for the treatment. They eventually replaced the chain with a lighter one, but the discomfort persisted.Towards the end of my treatment, I still had space between my front teeth and my bite was now off. I shared this with Dr. Mehr and she stated my bite was fine, it just probably feels off because of the braces but it is just as it should be and as it relates to the space between my front teeth, she said that was natural. After about a month post treatment while wearing the retainers on a full-time basis, the space between my front teeth became a little wider and my bite was still off and started causing a lot of pain along my jaw line and ears. Since Greater Houston dismissed my concerns prior to removing the braces, I selected 3 highly reviewed orthodontists around Houston and went to them for an evaluation of my issues. The first stated my bite was a little off and the gap definitely should be addressed but they refused to address the issues and referred me back to Greater Houston. The 2nd orthodontist also stated by bite was off and shared the reason I’m in pain is because my teeth are having to slide in position when I eat due to them not aligning. This causes a lot of stress on my jaws which results in the ear pain and is also causing a square jaw look. He also pointed out the hump I have in my bottom teeth should be corrected. His price was $5K to correct. The 3rd orthodontist told me the problem with my bite may be retainer related. He requested I stop wearing the retainers for about 4 weeks then come back. After getting all this feedback, I felt confident in 2 things, my bite needed correcting and the gap between my front teeth should not be there. So, I went back to Greater Houston and shared the feedback to see if they would take responsibility for their work. Instead of taking responsibility, I was told there is nothing wrong with my teeth, they did a great job. Dr. Mehr informed me I will likely need to see a surgeon to correct the issues and she referred me to her surgeon and she also stated that if I’d had Botox in the past, that could be causing the issues I’m having. She did; however, adjust my retainer to try and close the gap in my front teeth but that’s all the assistance she offered.I truly can't say anything good about this company. My experience with Greater Houston has been deeply disappointing, and I felt compelled to share my experience to caution others against choosing them for orthodontic treatment. It's essential to thoroughly research and consider both positive and negative reviews before entrusting your dental care to any provider, as the consequences can be significant and long-lasting. Despite the challenges I've faced, I've encountered compassionate orthodontists along the way, underscoring the importance of investing time in finding the right practitioner. I emphatically do not recommend Greater Houston for orthodontic treatment, and I urge prospective patients to heed this warning. Your smile is too important to entrust to those who won't stand behind their work.
