FAQs

Frequently asked questions

1.What is a Dental Filling?

A dental filling is a restorative dentistry treatment that repairs damaged teeth by filling in holes or gaps with a sturdy material. Fillings can be used to treat cavities, minor chips and cracks, worn teeth, and injured or broken teeth. They restore the tooth's shape and stability, which can help prevent further damage and decay, and make it easier to chew.

2.What can I expect during a Dental Filling?

A dental filling can involve several steps, but the exact process depends on the type of filling and the material used:

  1. Numb the area The dentist will apply a numbing gel to the gums and then inject a local anesthetic. This may cause a temporary stinging sensation.

  2. Remove decay The dentist will use a drill, laser, or other specialized tool to remove the decayed or damaged area of the tooth, and may also shape the tooth to prepare for the filling. They may also use water to loosen debris, and a dental assistant may use suction to remove it.

  3. Fill the hole The dentist will fill the hole with the filling material. For resin composite fillings, a curing light will be used to harden the material.

  4. Polish and adjust The dentist will polish the filling and may adjust it so that your bite feels normal.
